Avidin is a glycoprotein present in egg whites. It can bind biotin, the vitamin B7 or vitamin H, very effectively.

When we cook the eggs avidin is deactivated in the same way as other proteins in the egg white. Eating too many raw egg whites can cause biotin deficiency. But, the egg yolk contains lot of biotin and it is one of the richest foods for biotin. This means you can eat the whole egg raw and be healthy.

Biotin deficiency can cause hair loss, skin problems, neurological problems and Conjunctivitis, the inflammation or infection of the lining of inner side of the eyelid.

Still you must remember the severe Salmonella infection and it is advisable to cook and eat the eggs.

Healthy persons can take many eggs in a week, but if you have high cholesterol, you must reduce your cholesterol and animal fat intake, reduce milk and milk products and all animal products.

Still I recommend you to take two eggs in a week. The reasons are as follows:

Egg is a very good food with proteins, iron and other essential elements. If you completely avoid cholesterol, your body produce more in your liver.

If you make bulls-eye or omelette or scrambled eggs, do not heat the oil in the frying pan too much.

Thirdly, many of the processed foods contain eggs, e.g., noodles, cakes, bread, biscuits and much other such food including many snacks. In one way we ban them, but take much through these processed foods. Enjoy your two to three eggs in a week very happily. Women must take more eggs because of their blood loss during menstruation. That means eat eggs and avoid completely processed food and this is not a loss for your health.

Eat more dark green vegetables and a glass of red wine reduces the cholesterol level as well as the blood pressure. Take the red wine only as medicine, if you take more the possibility of addiction as well as negative effects for blood pressure and cholesterol levels are there.

There are many people who have this problem. In many cases the villain may be the iron deficiency.

Consult your doctor, ask him to estimate your blood values of iron, ferritin and haemoglobin and try to correct the iron deficiency with food, or with iron supplement. The iron supplement should be taken only for only 14 days to 3 months; otherwise more free radicals will be produced in your body due to Fenton’s reaction.

Foods rich in iron include:

• Red meat
• Eggs
• Fruits
• Vegetables
• Nuts
• Legumes and pulses

After your meals, take one glass of either orange juice or one kiwi fruit that contains vitamin C. We need vitamin C for iron absorption.

Excess aluminium disturbs the absorption of iron; since vitamin C favours the aluminium absorption, avoid tea and cucumber with your meals. Avoid also calcium tablets after meals since they could also affect iron absorption.

All deodorants contain lot of aluminium salts and use them only under the arm and also very little. Aluminium cooking vessels and aluminium foils to pack the food must be avoided completely if you have iron deficiency.

The union of sperm and the egg is fertilization.

What is ovulation?

An egg is released every month from the girl’s ovaries and normally it will take few days (4 days) to travel down the fallopian tube. This egg can make her pregnant. It is a joint work between brain and ovary with the help of the hormones. If a sperm do not meet with the egg during this time, then there is no possibility to become pregnant.

What will happen if the sperm do not meet the egg?

If there is no foetus to nourish, the lining of the uterus comes out with blood approximately after 14 days and this is the period.

What is the process of fertilization?

Fertilization starts with sexual intercourse and the ejaculate contains millions of sperms. They swim upwards and may meet an egg in the fallopian tube. Only a single cell may penetrate the egg’s membrane. The egg is covered by two protecting layers so that normally fertilization by more than one sperm is not possible. But there are exceptions.
